Bubba Gritter Named Wrestling Head Coach

Former Grandville wrestler Bubba Gritter has been named the head coach of the Grandville High School Wresting Team. Bubba replaces John Sanderson who coached the Bulldogs to 21-12 record in his only season as the head coach.

For the past two years Bubba has worked as a wrestling assistant at Central Michigan University and has contributed to numerous wrestling camps around the country.

Bubba graduated from Grandville high school in 2003. While wrestling for the Bulldogs Bubba won three state titles, took fourth at the high school senior nations, was a three-time conference champion, and helped his team to the state finals in his senior year. Bubba finished with a 169-17 career record. Bubba also shares the Grandville High School all-time fastest pin record (6 seconds) with senior (class of 2011) Nick Reddy. In addition to his wrestling achievements Bubba was also an all-state defensive lineman and twice earned all-conference honors in football. Bubba lettered four times in wrestling and three times in football.

Bubba was a two-time All-American and two-time Mid-American Conference champion during his career at CMU. His fifth-place finish at the 2007 NCAA Championships is the highest place finish for a CMU heavyweight at the national tournament. Bubba was 106-34 overall during his career, including 62-13 over his final two seasons.

Bubba was a two-time NWCA All-Academic selection; he earned his bachelor’s degree from CMU in December 2008. Bubba will also be teaching at Grandville High School starting this fall.

Bubba’s assistant coaches have yet to be named.

Welcome home Bubba, we are glad you are here.
